The Promises to David

Sometime around the 9th century BC, King David ruled over the nation of Israel. Despite the infamous incident with Bathsheba, he was a good king who served God with his whole heart.

David was so devoted to God that he felt guilty for living in a royal palace while the religious services were carried out in a tent. He wanted to build a magnificent temple for God instead.

God does not live in a temple, he has no need of a house to live in like humans do - but he was impressed by David’s devotion and attitude, and gave him a blessing.

This blessing was made up of some special promises about David’s kingdom and about his descendants. These promises reached across space and time, and are still relevant to us today.
